Cleaning Up My Act

Not a great new storyline, but another serious post from me. Earlier I posted that I was taking down a couple of stories and putting back the login and password as a safeguard for 18+, although you may not have seen that because it was, obviously, behind the protected area.  I've had a rethink, and I've decided on balance to take down my stories from this site (thus the password is gone).  I've left a few posts up which aren't stories, but as you will see, the stories themselves are off.  I'd already posted my (probably) last story, a chapter of Taming the Beast, to BDSMLibrary.

I feel I should say this is not something Typepad or anyone else has imposed.  Rather, I think I was getting a bit tied up (excuse the pun) in the whole thing, and it was heading somewhere a little unhealthy, for me.  Autre temps, autre moeurs, as they say in French - so don't feel this is meant to be a general comment.  Well, anyway, I'm going to try a 500 or so year old technique of cleaning u my act, first to stop writing (which, sadly, means no more freshly minted Mobbed IV), then to make good (this bit), then to keep to my hands clean (well, okay, that is not going to happen, I'm not a puritan, but at least I'll be keeping them clean on the keyboard) and finally to let go.   The last part means that if I decide this is all crap in another month or so (you never know), everything's still there - for now.

Trash talk

Okay maybe it's just because I've been writing more Tat, but my taste in men has taken a real dive. Jessie Alan for example, is "fucken hot trash!". Maybe it's those piercing eyes. Man, what happened to those clean cut preppie dudes just waiting to be taken down a notch? It's like I started out seeking Troy Reeves and ended up with Troy Punk.

Is Anything Still Taboo

It's a challenge writing gay humil stories since a major factor has to be the discomfort a guy (gay or straight) would feel doing certain acts, or having elements of their life exposed in public, or irrevocably changed. Now sure these are fantasy, so you can indulge in a healthy amount of 'suspension of disbelief', to use a filmmakers phrase.

But these days, living in a liberal western city, there seems to be very little gay guys won't do for kicks, or won't share about themselves in public (in fact sometimes sharing too much), and equally there is a limitless capacity to reinvent yourself.

Likewise, I think it is less realistic nowadays to assume that a straight guy can be tricked or bought or conned into action, or is somehow 'up for it' in that gay cliche way. The more the lines are blurred between gay and straight (where it becomes a non-issue in everyday life), the harder it is to imagine that a scenario could be sustained because a guy is too ashamed or money hungry or scared to end it themselves, or with the law.

All this makes suspension of disbelief difficult. Imagining a world that is different (or perhaps a different era) doesn't seem to get to the nut of the issue - that these days, almost everything that was humiliating is now - for someone, somewhere - a version of normal. Perhaps another truth stranger than fiction?
